This Christmas, VIR is supporting SOS Villaggi dei Bambini (at the International level SOS Children’s Villages) to ensure that children and teenagers who cannot benefit from appropriate parental care will grow in a situation of equality with their peers, fully realizing their potential and ability to live an independent life. SOS Children’s Villages was founded by Hermann Gmeiner, a young medical student who had witnessed firsthand the suffering of so many children orphaned after World War II. In 1949, he opened the first SOS Village in Imst, Tyrol-Austria; more than 70 years later, SOS Children’s Villages’ presence has grown to more than 138 countries and territories around the world. In Italy, the Organization promotes the rights of over 47.000 children and young people and takes care of over 900 people, through 8 Programs and SOS Villages in Trento, Ostuni (Brindisi), Vicenza, Saronno (Varese), Mantua, Turin, Crotone and Milan.
